Junior Activities<\/h3>\r\n

The ALA Junior Activities program inspires active participation in ALA for girls ages 17 and under so they will become engaging, productive members who will want to continue\u00a0their ALA membership as an adult. Junior members are not a separate organization, but\u00a0are members of the ALA, grouped separately so they may be given a program within the\u00a0scope of their age and understanding. Junior membership is the training ground for\u00a0active ALA membership, instilling the ideals of the ALA, and presenting opportunities to\u00a0teach the ALA\u2019s founding principles of justice, freedom, loyalty, and democracy. Juniors\u00a0function under the guidance of ALA adult members; they may conduct their own\u00a0meetings and carry out their own activities, coordinated with adult members. Junior\u00a0members should have a role in regular unit activities whenever possible.<\/p>\r\n

All Junior Department meetings and activities are under the guidance of the Department\u00a0Junior Activities Chair. Likewise, all Unit Junior meetings and activities are under the\u00a0guidance of the Unit Junior Activities Chair (or other appropriate adult unit member).<\/p>\r\n

The Department Junior Activities Chair, Vice Chair and any committee members\u00a0<\/b>or others assisting with Junior Activities must have a background check. <\/b>This\u00a0background check is reimbursed by the Department.<\/p>\r\n

Activities:<\/b><\/p>\r\n

\u2022<\/span> Americanism<\/i> should be a major focus of the Junior Activities program.<\/p>\r\n

\u2022<\/span> Promote participation in the Junior Patch Program. <\/i>Members of the SAL who are\u00a0under 18 years of age can participate as well whether or not they are members of\u00a0the ALA under the new membership criteria. Completing requirements for\u00a0Patches provides Junior members and SAL youth opportunities to increase their\u00a0knowledge of the various aspects of the American Legion Family.<\/p>\r\n

\u2022<\/span> Promote Unit chair collaboration with Children & Youth, Americanism, and other\u00a0Unit chairs to maximize Junior participation in a variety of activities.<\/p>\r\n

\u2022<\/span> Promote Unit chair collaboration with Post and Squadron Children & Youth\u00a0chairs. Only the ALA has a Junior Activities program, and this is an avenue for\u00a0inclusion of SAL youth in many activities.<\/p>\r\n
