These include the following:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Attending leadership conference and workshops in the Department o Some in-person and some virtual to allow everyone an opportunity to participate.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Attending <em>Mission Training<\/em> if possible.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Sharing information with members after attending events<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Promoting participation in <em>ALA Academy<\/em> courses which are free to all members o Set up an ALA account.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Then log in to the <em>MyAuxiliary<\/em> member portal at <a href=\"https:\/\/member\/legion-aux.org\/member\/memberprofiler\">https:\/\/member\/legion<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/member\/legion-aux.org\/member\/memberprofiler\">org\/member\/memberprofile<\/a><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Go to the <em>ALA Academy <\/em>to browse courses and select a course.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Topics are available to enhance knowledge about ALA history, programs, and the organization itself to most effectively deliver our mission.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note: Be on the lookout for information about the <em>ALA Leadership Certificate Program<\/em> coming soon.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Leadership program webpage has links to resources to download for free (or for purchase) including the <em>Unit Guide<\/em>, <em>Basic Parliamentary Procedure<\/em> and all of the ALA guide books such as the <em>Military Family Readiness Guide<\/em>, the <em>Junior Activities Handbook<\/em>, the <em>Legislative Advocacy Guide<\/em>, the <em>Operation Homefront Guide<\/em>, the <em>USO Action Guide<\/em>, the <em>VA&amp;R Guide<\/em> and more.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Leadership committee is also responsible for judging nominations for the Department\u2019s <em>Member of the Year <\/em>award. Nominees must be members in good standing with dues paid for the prior two years and the current year, and must never have held a position higher than unit President and must exemplify the ideals of the ALA. The recipient is honored at the National Convention.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Note: This differs from the Unit Member of the Year, who receives a Dogwood pin from the Department President. The eligibility criteria for each of these differ, and the Unit Member of the Year may or may not be the same individual nominated for the Department\u2019s Member of the Year, depending upon the Unit\u2019s Constitution and Bylaws and Standing Rules.
