Leadership Committee<\/b><\/h3>\n

The purposes of the Leadership program are to identify potential new leaders, develop existing leaders, and to better equip all members to serve in leadership positions with confidence, skill and background knowledge through raising awareness of ALA leadership development opportunities. These include the following:<\/p>\n

\u2022<\/span> Attending leadership conference and workshops in the Department
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Some in-person and some virtual to allow everyone an opportunity to participate.
\n\u2022<\/span> Watching for these event announcements via constant contact
\n\u2022<\/span> Sharing information with members after attending events
\n\u2022<\/span> Promoting participation in ALA Academy<\/i> courses which are free to all members
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Set up an ALA account.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Then log in to the MyAuxiliary<\/i> member portal at https:\/\/member.legion-<\/span>aux.org\/member\/memberprofile<\/a>
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Go to the ALA Academy <\/i>to browse courses and select a course.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Topics are available to enhance knowledge about ALA history, programs, and the organization itself to most effectively deliver our mission.<\/p>\n

The National Leadership program webpage has links to resources to download for free (or for purchase) including the Unit Guide<\/i>, Basic Parliamentary Procedure<\/i> and all of the ALA guide books such as the Military Family Readiness Guide<\/i>, the Junior Activities <\/i>
\nHandbook<\/i>, the Legislative Advocacy Guide<\/i>, the Operation Homefront Guide<\/i>, the USO <\/i>Action Guide<\/i>, the VA&R Guide<\/i> and more.<\/p>\n

The Leadership committee is also responsible for judging nominations for the Department\u2019s Member of the Year <\/i>award. Nominees must be members in good standing with dues paid for the prior two years and the current year, and must never have held a
\nposition higher than unit President and must exemplify the ideals of the ALA. The recipient is honored at the National Convention at the Member of the Year Luncheon.<\/p>\n

Note: This differs from the Unit Member of the Year, who receives a Dogwood pin from <\/i>the Department President. The eligibility criteria for each of these differ, and the Unit <\/i>Member of the Year may or may not be the same individual nominated for the <\/i>Department\u2019s Member of the Year, depending upon the Unit\u2019s Constitution and Bylaws <\/i>and Standing Rules.
