These include the following:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">\u2022<\/span> Attending leadership conference and workshops in the Department<br \/>\n<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Some in-person and some virtual to allow everyone an opportunity to participate.<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">\u2022<\/span> Watching for these event announcements via constant contact<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">\u2022<\/span> Sharing information with members after attending events<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">\u2022<\/span> Promoting participation in <i>ALA Academy<\/i> courses which are free to all members<br \/>\n<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Set up an ALA account.<br \/>\n<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Then log in to the <i>MyAuxiliary<\/i> member portal at <a href=\"https:\/\/member.legion-aux.org\/member\/memberprofile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s3\">https:\/\/member.legion-<\/span>aux.org\/member\/memberprofile<\/a><br \/>\n<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Go to the <i>ALA Academy <\/i>to browse courses and select a course.<br \/>\n<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0 \u00a0 o<\/span> Topics are available to enhance knowledge about ALA history, programs, and the organization itself to most effectively deliver our mission.<\/p>\n<p>The National Leadership program webpage has links to resources to download for free (or for purchase) including the <i>Unit Guide<\/i>, <i>Basic Parliamentary Procedure<\/i> and all of the ALA guide books such as the <i>Military Family Readiness Guide<\/i>, the <i>Junior Activities <\/i><br \/>\n<i>Handbook<\/i>, the <i>Legislative Advocacy Guide<\/i>, the <i>Operation Homefront Guide<\/i>, the <i>USO <\/i><i>Action Guide<\/i>, the <i>VA&amp;R Guide<\/i> and more.<\/p>\n<p>The Leadership committee is also responsible for judging nominations for the Department\u2019s <i>Member of the Year <\/i>award. Nominees must be members in good standing with dues paid for the prior two years and the current year, and must never have held a<br \/>\nposition higher than unit President and must exemplify the ideals of the ALA. The recipient is honored at the National Convention at the Member of the Year Luncheon.<\/p>\n<p><i>Note: This differs from the Unit Member of the Year, who receives a Dogwood pin from <\/i><i>the Department President. The eligibility criteria for each of these differ, and the Unit <\/i><i>Member of the Year may or may not be the same individual nominated for the <\/i><i>Department\u2019s Member of the Year, depending upon the Unit\u2019s Constitution and Bylaws <\/i><i>and Standing Rules.
