Outstanding Virginian

The Outstanding Virginian Committee looks for a Virginian who has emulated the motto of the America Legion Auxiliary, “Service, Not Self.”

This award is not given annually and should only be awarded occasionally to a truly Outstanding Virginian at the Annual Department Convention normally held in July.

The Nominees must be residents of Virginia but not necessarily members of the American Legion or the American Legion Auxiliary.  They should be well-known generally on a state-wide basis and also be highly respected in their field of endeavor and as citizens.

Nominations should be in the form of a resume and letters of recommendation and must be sent to the Chairman of this Committee, not to the Department President.

He/she MUST NOT KNOW that the nomination is being made in case he/she is not selected.  The Department President in consultation with the Department Executive Board does make the final selection for Outstanding Virginian.  She also invites the recipient to attend the Department Convention to receive the award.
